The Rural Women Development Trust (RWDT), in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII), successfully completed a one-month Eco-friendly Jute Bag Making Training Program, aimed at equipping rural women with sustainable livelihood skills.
Over the course of the training, held from 23 September to 24 October 2025, 55 women learned the complete process of making eco-friendly jute bags—an increasingly popular alternative to plastic. To celebrate their achievement, RWDT organized a Certificate Distribution Ceremony on 17 November 2025 at the RWDT Meeting Hall. The program was designed to provide hands-on training in jute bag production and to encourage rural women to become eco-friendly entrepreneurs. Through practical sessions and mentoring, participants learned cutting, stitching, designing, and finishing techniques essential for producing high-quality bags.
The event was graced by:
- Mr. Kartick, EDII Facilitator
- Mrs. V. Alamelu, Director, RWDT
- Mr. Bannan B, CEO, ASJF TN
They motivated the trainees with inspiring messages on women empowerment and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Mrs. Alamelu assured that RWDT would continue supporting the women in marketing, business guidance, and entrepreneurship development. She congratulated all 55 trainees for their dedication and encouraged them to pursue their dreams confidently.
Participants’ Voices: Stories of Confidence & New Beginnings
The success of the program was best reflected in the feedback shared by the participants:
• Ms. Nivetha
She proudly shared that she received her first jute bag order from her family and neighbours. This small beginning boosted her confidence and sparked her dream of becoming a full-time entrepreneur.
• Ms. Gokila
She expressed how she always admired jute bags in shops but never imagined she would one day know how to make them. After completing the training, she now feels proud and empowered to earn an income doing something she loves.
A Step Toward Sustainable & Independent Futures
All 55 trainees successfully completed the program and received their certificates during the ceremony. Many expressed interest in starting small-scale jute bag units, contributing not only to their family’s income but also to environmental conservation by promoting plastic-free alternatives.
This initiative is part of RWDT’s continuous efforts to support women’s entrepreneurship, skill development, and sustainable community growth.
